“You Are Gonna Turn Out Fine”
Carley McCord was a big Andy Grammar song. And just before she died at age 30, she had some of his lyrics in her brain. “Keep Your Head Up” was among her favorite songs, particularly this line:
"Only rainbows after rain, the sun will always come again.”
But for Carley, an up-and-coming sports reporter whom I had the pleasure of meeting just six weeks before her horrific death, the sun rose on December 28, 2019, but she did not live to see it set.
I met Carley on Thanksgiving, 2018, as I was covering the Falcons vs Saints NFL game in New Orleans. Carley asked to interview me before the game. And then she posted an incredibly generous message on Instagram:
Just weeks later, I learned she had died in a plane crash.
Her mom, Karen McCord, contacted me months later. She wanted to interview me for a book she was writing about her late daughter’s life.
That book, "Only Rainbows", is now available for pre-order. I was honored to welcome Karen onto the podcast this week.
