“I’m Mad As Hell, and I’m Not Going to Take it Anymore!”
If you saw the film, “Network,” you recall the scene.
“Network” is a film about TV news anchor, Howard Beale, played by Peter Finch. With his ratings in the toilet, he breaks down on national TV.
Ignoring the teleprompter, Beale rages about the frustrations of the time and begins to rant: “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!” Then he urges his viewers to open their windows and do the same.
This scene was written and performed in 1976, but it captures a lot of what America, and likely other parts of the world, are feeling today.
Beale, with disheveled hair and wearing a raincoat, looks into the camera and shouts,
“I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth. Banks are going bust. Shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be…”
We explored some of that sentiment here in 2024 in last week’s episodes.
But as we head into Christmas, Hanukkah, and the New Year, I pray that this is the storm before a new level of calm in 2025.
We Don’t Want to Scare You, But You Need to be Aware.
Peter Johnson of Archway Defense joins Michele to talk about the realities of evil confronting America. Assassination attempts — both successful and unsuccessful — are red flags. Illegal immigrants from China and Afghanistan are red flags. And drones may be red flags as well. Johnson gives an unvarnished take on what America should be preparing for in 2025.
