Duh.
I’m so late to this party.
You know why politicians fight so passionately over certain issues? Money.
OK, you can stop laughing at my naïveté. I still cling to the notion that most politicians really want to solve problems.
But more and more I am proven wrong.
Those in office champion certain issues — the border, abortion, voting, climate — but never solve them. Because if they did, the fundraising might dry up.
What would they do then? If there are no pressing problems, who needs the politicians to fight for them?
If an issue does see progress, the sly foxes will figure out another grievance to foist upon the masses.
Take Gay rights. Gay marriage is now legal, and gay couples can adopt children. My gay friends tell me they have achieved the equality they wanted.
But there was so much money in the fight! Now what do all those organizations do to stay afloat, pay their leaders, and stay relevant?
They slice and dice the population even more until they can find another group of victims for whom to fight.
Notice how many letters have been added to LGB? We are at least at LGBTQI+. I think. And that “plus” sign leaves room for endless groups to come on board.
Gay Legal Rights attorney Jeff Cleghorn told me in a recent podcast (which is linked here) that many in the LGB community feel the movement has been highjacked by the Trans-Plus community.
What about gun control and climate change (and by “change,” I mean how many times can they CHANGE the name of the issue?? Global cooling. Global warming. Climate change. Climate crisis. Global boiling!)
The hotter (or colder) things get, the more they say, “How DARE you?!?!”
This is not to suggest the issue isn’t real.
But the United States produces the cleanest energy in the world, and that’s not good enough. Time to get rid of gas stoves, pizza ovens, and even mandate that ice cream trucks go electric (expect lots of melting).
And gun control? Politicians will likely never stop raising money over the issue. In June of 2022, the Biden Administration signed into law the first federal gun control legislation in nearly thirty years.
That hasn’t slowed the fundraising for gun control activists.
And protectors of the Second Amendment will also continue to fundraise by pointing to anyone who wants sane gun control as a “gun-grabber.”
It’s a deep divide that produces lots of cash for both sides. So don’t expect the issue to ever go away.
Same with the Green movement.
Politicians make a career out of arguing.
And by dividing us all, they rake in the cash.
